A question about the deadlines

Hello! I have a question regarding the 10k deadlines.

I was refining my app aiming to submit before the recommended deadline which is "January 11, 2013 at 8:00pm EST", as denoted here

After submitting the app I've happened to find this post which says that EST corresponds to the Australian EST, while googling "EST" abbreviation leads to one of the USA time zones (this page, for example) and doesn't mention Australian EST at all. I submitted my app on January 11, 7:40pm EST (American), which corresponds to January 12, 10:40am of the Australian EST time zone. So I'm late for 15 hours with my submit.

Aiming to submit at the last hour before the deadline was my great mistake and I admit it. However, such deadline specification looks very confusing and I really could never suppose that there is any other EST time besides the American one. My app falls under the Port-a-Thon program now but I did not want to participate in Port-a-Thon, the 10k Developer Commitment is more desired for me. So I wanted to ask whether there is any possibility for me to feel certain that my app is approved in time to meet Built for BlackBerry submission deadline.

Any comments from RIM are very appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: A question about the deadlines

The deadline was 8pm EST (there's only one official EST time zone, and it's the one Waterloo, RIM's headquarters, is in). You submitted, you say, at 7:40pm EST, which means you weren't late.

The Australian one is actually called AEST. Apologies to the Australians, but since a Canadian invented timezones, I guess he got to name them too. ;-)

Re: A question about the deadlines

Thanks Peter!

I'll be happy if you're right, but how do you explain the situation with Port-a-Thon?

Re: A question about the deadlines

I posted in that thread already, at the end. Perhaps that explains it for you?

There is only one EST, and it's the one Waterloo (RIM's headquarters) is in. All official times for these RIM events seem to be clearly marked as EST, so there's no real chance for confusion except perhaps those in Australia who (apparently incorrectly) refer to AEST as just EST.
