For Blackberry 10k commitment, we're planning to create a new version of an app that already exists in the Blackberry App world. The existing app is for Blackberry 7. However, we want both the apps to be present simulaneously. Is it possible?
Just submit a new bundle as an update, but target only QNX and the relevant BB10 devices. The old build will still be available on the old platforms. That's what some of us have done with BB10 apps that are already on the PlayBook as well.
I'm afraid we can't do that since the app which is already there in the App World is free and the one we're planning to put for the contest has to be paid. So my question is can we do that? Can we have two apps of the same name, one targeting 7 and below and free and the other targeting 10 and above and paid?
I doubt you can do that. You might request that they switch your app from Free to Paid. There's another thread that was active in the last day or two on that topic, probably in the App World forum. It's not something you can do on a whim generally, so assume once you've done it that you can't ever switch it back to Free.
Given that the old one is only BB OS and free, however, and the new one will be BB10 and paid, why not just create a new app entry? They can't have exactly the same name, but aside from that there should be no issue. It's not like users of the old one would be dealing with it like an upgrade or anything. They're basically two different platforms.
