Hello and welcome to our forum. My name is Christine and I am one of the BlackBerry Academic Program Specialists. I hope you find many opportunities to connect with other academics who have integrated BlackBerry development into their curriculum, and that we can generate several discussions.

Re: Welcome

Am I to understand that this program is a certification program for BlackBerry such as MCP training? Aside from obvious functionality boons in terms of personal use, what sort of benefits would such certification provide? Furthermore, why is it that there is such a certification program, and yet RIM is without a BlackBerry support line of its own? Shouldn't customer service precede consumer certification?

Don't misunderstand my curiosity for disapproval -- I believe that such training is generally beneficial when conducted through the proper channels. I'd just like to know a little more.

Re: Welcome

I think the BlackBerry Academic Program FAQ answers one of your questions:

From : http://na.blackberry.com/eng/ataglance/academic/resources.jsp

Isn’t this the same as the BlackBerry Certification Program?

The BlackBerry Academic Program offers courses that can help prepare individuals to take BlackBerry certification exams. But this program is focused on helping individuals develop the knowledge needed to further expand their BlackBerry technology skills.

Please note that the BlackBerry Developer Certification programs are currently in beta and not yet fully available to the general public.

RIM offers multiple support services for BlackBerry application developers.  You can find more information at the following links:

Re: Welcome

I'm in Zimbabwe, I have AppWorld on my phone, I try to review and learn more apps but "its currently not available in my country" I do want to learn more so that I can help, share and possibly design better apps which might be already there and better if I can't review what is there on AppWorld.
