I dont have the word "debug" in my app.xml still getting the error.

It's not in your actual XML file, it's in your dervived XML file in "bin-debug"

Re: 500 unexpected override when launching app?

Try renaming the application id in you app xml file.

for example:

<id>com.blackberry.playbook</id>

to

<id>com.blackberry.playbookII</id>

I think this error is a mix up in the sdks, ie, there's a cross over of them when you've upgraded. Re-create the project in FB a fresh

Re: 500 unexpected override when launching app?

We found  a bug that causes unexpected override error - when packager generates "test" application id

it does not have enough randomness to account for flashbuilder .debug postfix and ends up with generating

same id for two diffrent apps. To workaround the issue - modify blackberry-tablet.xml - add tag

<packageId>XXX<packageId>

where XXX is the REAL packageId of your application, which is generated by signing server.

It looks like string of random symbols. You can find real packageId if you take your signed bar file

and run command

blackberry-airpackager -listManifest <yourbarfile>

I have been getting this error on and off also.

I think it started after changing the id in the <appname>-app.xml file.

What I did to solve this was to edit the <appname>-app.xml file

in the bin-debug folder and

remove the word

.debug from the <id> and

-debug from the <name> tags.

New thread, may be relevant to this one, though the "fixes" described above aren't going to help in this case. http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Testing-and-Deployment/Getting-quot-result-failure-502-unexpe...
