Re: Apps can be extracted from the Playbook?

I never thought through the difference between the App World configuration for that, and the platformVersion thing. I guess platformVersion would prevent it from launching, but would not prevent it from being downloaded? That would certainly be the wrong approach then...

peter is right, i want to second that, it makes developing for PB more attractive again. Guess I'll also start whipping up something :smileyhappy:. thanks for the info, Mark!

Re: Apps can be extracted from the Playbook?

I just wanted to confirm that this change is present in BlackBerry Tablet OS 2.0.1.

Re: Apps can be extracted from the Playbook?

So, just to be sure that I understand this correctly as I prepare to release another app for the PlayBook...

I should:

(1) Configure <platformVersion>2.0.1.BUILD_NUMBER_HERE</platformVersion>

(2) Configure App World provision such that only devices running OS 2.0.1 or later shall see the application.

???

Re: Apps can be extracted from the Playbook?

There's no particular value in doing the platformVersion thing. If you do, there's no value in specifying the build number, as opposed to just 2.0.1.0.

The App World provision would ensure that only 2.0.1 or later devices can see it in App World, which should provide full protection for your app so long as they've plugged the other holes fully and provided no one ever roots 2.0.1..

Personally, I'm loathe to rely on that last part, so I really would like to see the programmatic license key support added so we can provide additional anti-piracy protection, but for now this is the best we've got.

If you are concerned about this, vote for these items in JIRA:

Re: Apps can be extracted from the Playbook?

Jonno, the first one's mine and is, I believe, marked "public" already. (Has 9 votes now.)

I assume the second is yours, but since it's not public I can't see it.
