How to integrate your app with BlackBerry Messenger on BlackBerry 10

Please join myself, Mark Sohm and Nick Kalkounis on Thursday, December 6^th at 11:00 AM (EST) for a webcast on making your application go viral using the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) Social Platform.  This session will be delivered live from our #BBJamSpace at the Communitech Hub in Kitchener, Ontario and will be available live via webcast.  Register for the webcast in advance here.

Then continue the discussion after the webcast in our BlackBerry Developer Forums.  From 1 PM to 3 PM EST, we’ll be closely monitoring the forums for any questions, comments and feedback related to the BlackBerry Messenger Social Platform, replying as quickly as we can to foster a live discussion.

The webcast will cover the basics of integrating your BlackBerry 10 application with BlackBerry Messenger.  Learn about the benefits of the BBM Social Platform, including how to help increase the discovery of your application.  By the end of the series, you will be knowledgeable in the features of the BBM Social Platform and know how you can integrate them into your own application.

You can use the invocation framework to make use of many BBM features in AIR.  Details on BBM and the invocation framework can be found here:

This is nice. Would be nice if everything invocation could be found in one place regardless of the development environment.

Is there a way via invocation to set the status of BBM?

No, there isn't a way to set status using invocation.

That post doesn't discuss AIR at all, so don't see how it helps short of guessing.  It also makes no mention of registering to use BBM as discussed in other articles - e.g. the Native one.

Does this mean that we don't need to register if we use the invocation framework?

You don't have to register with BBM SP to use BBM through the invocation framework.

Official docs on using the invocation framework in AIR are limited (ahem none right now ).  But we do have a blog post on Using the Invocation Framework from ActionScript, which will make it into the official docs in the future.

You can use that as a guide to get started.
