OK, I saw this post where RIM Manager Tim Neil says this:
So know that your problem will be solved in the official v1.0 RTM release of the software and simulator.
I think most of expect another drop on Apr 19th (or hopefully before!), but this comment lends a lot of credance to that expectation.

Very nice!
I have been planning to submit a signed version of my app once v1.0 SDK is out. Hope fully before April 10th.

@appstorelover: you still havent signed any of your apps yet?

SDK releases have been averaging once a month (give or take). So that will make the next SDK around mid-April.

I'm kind of hoping for a new SDK to drop when the 1.0 OS is 'gold'.

As per Mike Kirkup:
@jpinkerton Yes. We will have a "gold" version of the AIR and Web Works tools before launch for developers. ^MK #AskBBDev
So I would assume we can see the GM release in the coming week so. They obviously can't ship these devices with Beta software, and even if they were planning for users to install a new OS upon launch they would have to have it ready to go well before the 19th.

I just hope that this Gold version is exactly 1:1 what will be on the shipping Playbooks. I could understand if the third-party apps like the music store and such weren't included, but I'm tired of a simulator that doesn't accurately represent an actual user experience. At least give us a full settings menu and a non-broken browser!
I want to change the backgroun picture too...I'm getting tired of seeing those same green crystal leaf things every time I test an app, and in every screenshot and video that's yet been released...![]()

@Bill: Thanks for catching that little easter bunny

and +1 for changing the wallpaper

My dad thought it was cool that it was Godzilla on the Playbook background...
And Gold Master would mean that it would be the final shipping software, so yes, it would be 1:1 with the actual device.
