Hi there,
I'm on a Mac, and want to develop for the Playbook. I tried following the simulator installation instructions on the developer's site, specifically here:
It first links to a download for VMWare Player, which is a Windows program (ie won't run on Mac). It also mentions that I need to open up VMWare Fusion. Do I need to purchase Fusion in order to use the simulator?
Thanks

From what I can tell, we are required to purchase VMWare Fusion if we choose to go that route. There is a 60 day trial version which is what I have installed so far. There are posts about people using other things too, so it doesn't seem that the Playbook simulator is tied to VMWare, just that we have instructions on how to use it.
Hope this helps.

Thanks. That's unfortunate, given that every other mobile platform's SDK is free.

Since I heard here VMWare isn't only a temporary solution, I'd go with Fusion. Actually, it's "on sale" until the end of year for $49.
I won't be surprised if RIM adds support for VirtualBox as well in the future, though.

SuperChicken,
Were you able to successfully install the Blackberry Tablet SDK for adobe air? Please refer to my other thread. http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Tablet-OS-S
I purchased VMware Fusion when I got my mac, and think it is a good investment. I have windows and linux as other virtual machines. I installed playbook as well, but I ended up using the windows .iso version as my mac version of the simulator failed to work. ![]()
