I'm running one of my own apps and I get this message:

"Unable to start application - error code 8"

What is error code 8? Where can I find a list of all the error codes?

Do you get this error as a desktop app, in the simulator or on the device? Where is the message coming from?

I get the error on the device (PlayBook). I try to run it by tapping on it, but then immediately exits and gives me that return code (8).

How are you getting the error? In a debugger? Does it run OK as an AIR app? Can you trace where it might be occuring?

I get the error when running from either the debugger or directly on the device.

Is there a list of error codes anywhere?

I don't know where the error code list may be, but yesterday I got "Error code 13" and no better description of what was wrong.

Turned out in my case it was just because my debug token had expired. Maybe that will give you some hint that lets you figure out what error 8 could be.

Also in another thread someone reported a problem resulting in error code 22, stemming from mis-signing it in some fashion.  These could all be related to signing issues of some kind.

Error code 8 would appear to be trying to load an unsigned app, as in this thread

If you get error 8 or error 13, and you sure everything you did is correct do this:

- Uninstall all version of your app

- Reboot playbook

- Install and launch again

these steps helped me out too, unfortunately I wasted 2 signing keys before following these steps.
