What apps will ship with the Playbook as default

I am hoping to get an understanding as to what apps will ship as default with the Playbook.

This will help be decide what to build as my first app submission.

Thanks in advance.

Re: What apps will ship with the Playbook as default

Good question, my guess:

  • Web browser
  • Video player
  • Music player
  • Social network (Twitter, Facebook)
  • Sync with BB phones
  • Contact managment
  • Calendar
  • Camera capturing (stills and movie)
  • Photo library and manipulation
  • Some games (those found on a BB phone)
  • App World
  • IM

Those are just a few that I would think are "must haves".  Then the providers (eg Verizon), will stick their applications on it too and hopefully not shut out certain API's like they do with their BB cell phones (e.g. GPS blocking by Verzion).

If you want ideas, visit the Apple store for the iPad and see which ones are doing best and do one better for the PB.

Re: What apps will ship with the Playbook as default

We can't say exactly which apps will ship right out of the box, but the ones that I can say will be there (in addition to others) are:

  • Web browser
  • Video player
  • Music player
  • Sync with BB phones
  • Camera capturing (stills and movie)
  • Photo library and manipulation
  • Some games
  • App World
There are definitely others above and beyond that, and we're working with several vendors to provide some really solid apps out of the gate for everyone.  The BlackBerry Dev Blog (closer to launch date) will probably be the best place to stay tuned to for more information.

Hi,

Will there something in place to submit my app for inclusion in the ones it ships with?

I think you are mostly right John... I'd have BBM and E-mail in there as well as they've been very clear that this thing can act as a bigger screen for the BB.  Also, I'm sure there will be some sort of GPS Mapping application along something to extend the BB's screen.  Look at Balsillie's screen in the latest in the wild videos... there looks like some cool stuff in there.

Best regards,

Brent
