Announcing BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2 Software Update

[ Edited ]

Product Overview

BlackBerry 10.2 OS introduces great new features like BlackBerry Priority Hub, BlackBerry Natural Sound and BBM now in any app that help users be more productive and stay better connected when it counts.

Plus, with hundreds of new refinements, BlackBerry 10.2 OS makes the things users do every day faster and easier.

New Features

1.     BlackBerry Priority Hub

Keep important conversations close.

  • All of a user’s conversations together in one place – email, BBM, calls, instant messages and notifications.
  • Always at a user’s fingertips with ‘peek’, so users have a sense of what’s happening at all times.
  • BlackBerry Priority Hub learns what conversations are most important helping users to stay focused on the most mission critical items.
  • The new attachment view helps users organize files, and documents across their messaging accounts and within specific message threads.

2.     BBM Video with Natural Sound

Share like you’re there.

  • BBM Video lets users have a live face to face conversation where ever, whenever.
  • Users can share their screen to work together on a document or review a presentation in the moment.
  • With BlackBerry Natural Sound, BBM Video and Voice conversations between BlackBerry 10 smartphones feel more natural, clear and realistic.
  • With Natural Sound users can pick up subtle nuances in tone and intonation lost in cellular calls today.

3.     Instant Previews of BBM, SMS and Email from any app

Stay in the flow.

  • BBM, SMS and E-mail messages now find users no matter what they are doing on their BlackBerry – perfect for keeping the conversation going while users browse the web, watch a video, or use other applications.
  • When a new BBM or SMS arrives, users can choose to reply to it in the moment without missing a beat, or they can dismiss it and address it later in the BlackBerry Hub.
  • Emails can find users too so they’re always on top of what matters – users just touch on them to be taken directly to that message in the Hub.
  • Users can choose to turn these instant previews on or off by account to tailor their notifications to how they work.

4.     BlackBerry Keyboard

The best keyboard, now even better.

  • With personalized next word suggestion, auto correction and the distinctive BlackBerry keyboard layout, the BlackBerry Keyboard is built to help users have conversations with speed and accuracy.
  • On the BlackBerry Z10 and Z30, improved audio feedback helps users type more confidently because they’ll have more reassurance they’ve hit the right key.
  • On the BlackBerry Z10 and Z30, keys like ‘backspace’, ‘alt’ and ‘shift’ and swiping down to access symbols provide distinct tones to give users confidence they’ve hit the right key.
  • Not only does the BlackBerry Keyboard support up to 3 languages simultaneously, automatic language detection adds languages users’ type in regularly to their input language so they don’t have to go in and change settings.

5.     Faster, easier sharing

Built to share, your way.

BlackBerry 10 learns how users share and who they share with helping users cut down the number of steps and amount of time it takes to get their files, photos or docs to where they need to go.

  • Touching ‘share’ in any app provides suggestions on who and how to share a user’s picture, file, link or document based on how they’ve shared in the past.
  • The suggestions users get will be tailored to the task at hand.
  • There are even new ways to share, like to the participants of a meeting for example – users can select a meeting from the calendar and all the attendees will receive their file.
  • As you the people users share with change, so do the suggestions.

6.     Lock Screen Notifications

Updates at a glance.

  • When the red light is flashing, users don’t have to unlock the phone to see what’s come in.
  • Notifications on the lock screen let users have a peek at the latest email, text, BBM or notification to see if it’s that message they’ve been waiting for.
  • Users can scroll over the icons on the lock screen to display the sender and the subject line.
  • Users are able to customize which accounts appear on the lock screen.

7.     Updates to Docs to Go

Stay in the flow.

  • Users can open a file from their personal cloud with built in access to Dropbox, Box and their enterprise work drives.
  • New enhancements to Documents to Go let users make it easier to work with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files and attachments anywhere.
  • Users can use find & replace in documents, support for smart art, new formulas for worksheets and even a rehearsal mode in presentations.
  • Plus, with InTact Technology all original document formatting is retained when edits are made, shared and synced from the mobile device.
  • All saved edits are automatically synced without needing to upload or download versions.

8.     Phone: Reply Now

Let your contacts know you’re tied up.

  • When a contact calls and a user is tied up, users can dismiss their call and send a quick response to let the caller know they’re on their way, or that they’ll call them back later.
  • BlackBerry 10 will figure out the best way to reply based on what information it knows about that contact; BBM, text message or email.
  • Users can choose to use one of the standard responses or create a custom one of their own.

9.     Calendar

More ways to stay organized.

  • Calendar has been updated with a new ‘I’m running late’ feature to let meeting participants know a user is running behind.
  • From a meeting entry, users can select ‘I will be late’ and set the amount of time they’re running behind; and email all the meeting participants to let them know they’re updated ETA.
  • Other calendar updates include a redesigned interface for adding new calendar events that is faster and easier to use and better supported.

10.  Copy and Paste

Moving text from here to anywhere just got easier.

  • Users can double tap in any text field up bring up text selection, then highlight the text with more precisely improved cursor control.
  • Editing options automatically appear without having to access another menu. Users can select cut, copy, paste or bring up formatting options to change font, add colors, or use bullets.
  • Once a user selects cut or copy, the next time they place the cursor in any text field, the paste option appears automatically.
  • Highlighting text will even let a user share directly to BBM, text, Facebook or Twitter.
