BlackBerry® Enterprise Server Express is software that may be installed on the same mail server as Microsoft® Exchange Server®, Windows ® Small Business Server, or on a separate server. There are no software license fees or client access license fees associated with BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express. When installed directly on the primary mail server, BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express is designed to support up to 75 BlackBerry smartphone users. If more than 75 users are required BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express can be installed on a separate server1 and organizations may deploy any number of servers to support thousands of BlackBerry smartphone users. Client access licenses for BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express cannot be used with other BlackBerry® Enterprise Server products.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express is designed to wirelessly synchronize BlackBerry smartphone user email, calendar, contacts, notes, and tasks with Microsoft Exchange Server or Windows Small Business Server. BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express is compatible with BlackBerry smartphones provisioned with any Internet-enabled BlackBerry data plan (BlackBerry® Internet Service), BlackBerry enterprise data plan (BlackBerry Enterprise Server) or a combination of both data plans. When activating BlackBerry smartphones provisioned with an Internet-enabled BlackBerry data plan, using BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express, wired activation is required.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express is designed to simplify administrative tasks using the BlackBerry Administration Service, a web application that is accessible from any computer that can access the computer that hosts the BlackBerry Administration Service. It also includes a simplified set of IT policies to control the features of the BlackBerry smartphones that are used in an organization's network environment.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express, amongst other things, does not include the BlackBerry® Monitoring Service, BlackBerry MDS Integration Service or high availability. Mixed-mode environment (BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express in the same BlackBerry domain), premium products and services (such as BlackBerry® Mobile Voice System) and Enterprise Instant Messaging are also not supported. Organizations cannot migrate BlackBerry smartphone users between BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express and other BlackBerry Enterprise Server products.
At the time of initial launch, BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express will be available in English only.
