BBM is built around helping people to connect and share experiences. Today, BBM will begin rolling out a new update that will make it easier to express yourself with the introduction of stickers! Stickers are bigger, bolder, more beautiful images than the traditional BBM emoticons, giving users a fun new way to chat. Stickers will be available for download and purchase through the new BBM Shop, found right inside BBM. Sticker packs will contain between 20-25 stickers and will be available for purchase at a cost of $1.99 USD (or equivalent local currency).
This release also introduces some new features in response to feedback from BBM customers. Notably, users will now be able to send pictures in multi-person chats. This means that you can share a picture with several BBM contacts and chat about it together. Also, this release of BBM increases the file transfer limit for sending attachments from 6-16 megabytes (on BlackBerry 10, iPhone and Android only. BlackBerry OS smartphones remain 6MB). With this increase, users will be able to enjoy sending higher quality photos, longer videos, and larger documents.
Finally, with this release we will begin to support sponsored content in BBM Channels. Through the ability to offer featured channels, sponsored invites and sponsored posts, we will help connect our BBM Channels users with relevant, interesting content from brands and businesses alike. To learn more about our strategy around sponsored content and what we’re doing to preserve the BBM experience users know and love, please read this article on the BBM blog.
