Qi compatible accessories

Hi all! Has anyone heard about wireless charging accessories for the Z10 ? I didn't see RIM as part of the Qi consortium... Any thought?

Re: Qi compatible accessories

BlackBerry is indeed not part of the Qi consortium.
BlackBerry have had several charging methods other than USB :
charging pods with metal contact on selected phones (curve 8900, Style and Bold/Porsche series) and on the PlayBook (with the magnet charger).

The Z10 and the Q10 will not have any accessory made by BlackBerry to enable charging without the USB port.

It will be possible for any third party accessory maker to design a special battery door that will enable a contactless charging (think Duracell's Powermat), but I do not know if the NFC antenna will be available.

Re: Qi compatible accessories

Things are different now.
BlackBerry is part of the Qi consortium, and they have one specific type of Z30 that supports Qi charging: this model is currently sold exclusively by Verizon Wireless.
All other types of Z30 don't support Qi charging.
All other models (Z10, Q5, Q10) don't support Qi charging.

Re: Qi compatible accessories

If you search around for "webOS touchstone hacks" you'll find lots of folks (e.g. webosinternals) who have hacked the (proprietary, non-Qi) old webOS inductive charging system into other phones.  It's not trivial and you need to be good with tools and a soldering iron but you can probably still find all the parts (charging puck, phone back covers) online cheap these days.  I haven't looked in a while.  webOS wireless charging was brilliant in its time, and was about to get even better right before HP killed it.

@vmisirlis

just buy any thing Qi antenna for a Samsung Galaxy S4, and use it for your BlackBerry phone.
Keep in mind that the "cord" must be long enough so give you flexibility in how you position the antenna.

Besides, this trick will occupy your microUSB slot.

Re: Qi compatible accessories

I have the webOS HP Pre 3 and wireless charge was highly effective for that as well as for my HP Touchpad tablet ...the phone charger was to get a speaker system ...then the whole project folded, they sold off at fire-sale, threw out the OS, and went back to pez dispensers... the high&mighty fall far... a lesson
