Re: BB10 updates for SE devices -

It's clear that 10.2 is still some time away (mid of August according to some sources) but even 10.0 and 10.1 updates would be nice. I currently have a SIM card on loan from a supported carrier but that can't be a solution forever, as I have to return it soon.

Unsupported carriers who don't offer BB 10 devices should be bypassed by the update process and BB should push OTAs to them directly – especially if it's LE or Dev devices!

Re: BB10 updates for SE devices -

Oh btw, alopix, it is available via ota for the 10.1 MR. But some telcos aren't releasing it just yet - this is the telco's fault!

But ofcourse, it will only be released to the device build that's officially supported by the telco

Re: BB10 updates for SE devices -

Understand it whomever can-- I don't..

But - there are many carriers now holding back the MR due to the SMS issue.. (people loosing old SMSes when upgrading)
Clewley has said that a solution is "near"...

Hopefully by the end of late summer, most BB10 users will be on the same minimum OS build...

@tezytan That's what I meant: as long as the provider supports BB 10 there's no problem. It's those who don't support them and also DOESN't sell BB 10 devices.

Re: BB10 updates for SE devices -

As far as we all want that to happen... If they want to mantain the so called rosey relations with the telco, they have to listen to what the telcos want...

What they could do, taking a leaf out of apple is to roll out all the updates globally at same time.

On the side note, for the LE's, the internal hardware is identical to the retails. Hence, its pretty hard for them to identify these devices.
And the dev alphas aren't meant to be personal devices... So wipe and wipe, but yes, that's pretty dumb considering the developer now can't just update ota, they have to wipe and then reload their beta apps again...

Pretty much doesn't sum up why blackberry really refuses to roll out update worldwide (just like playbook times) which could also help the fragmentation of os's out there...

As I learnt, not all builds are resulting in loss of sms... So...

I know why they do it, but it's not that hard to know if the provider has a contract with BB or not. If it does not: immediately push the OTA.
Otherwise, they could just whitelist devices through the PIN, allowing devs to apply for direct OTAs.

EDIT: forgot the doesn't in the previous post :smileywink:
