BIS carrier email used as BBID

[ Edited ]

I am currently using a rogers.blackberry.net email as my BBID.  I have a BB data plan on Rogers.  I've read on CrackBerry.com that in a year's time,  I will no longer be able to access my bis email from my BB Z10 phone. Can any BlackBerry employees verify if this is happening? I picked the BIS email from my provider because I would always (or so I have thought ) have this wherever I move using same provider. Anyone from RIM/BlackBerry know what will happen? I know BIS is no longer required for Z10, but I have a 6 gb BB plan with Rogers and don't want to give up my BBID.

Re: BIS carrier email used as BBID

Hi, don't worry everything is going to be fine, read ahead.

some points:

  • you currently have a data plan at Rogers, that gives you a Rogers email address
  • when you get your Z10, the data plan will still apply
  • your Rogers email address will work for a few months only
  • you can temporarily auto-forward your Rogers emails to another email provider (GMail, Outlook.com, yahooMail and so on)
  • You can then change the email of your BBID to your new email
  • You will have to tell all your contacts that you now have a new email address

I'm sure you have questions, and I think you will find all the answers in this very detailed article from the public knowledge base:

KB33260 BlackBerry (hosted) email address forwarding for BlackBerry 10

Re: BIS carrier email used as BBID

Thanks for the response. So I will have to give up my BIS carrier.blackberry.net email? I shouldn't have to, I pay my carrier Rogers for a BIS plan, why would BlackBerry remove that email or no longer support it? I don't get it... I want to keep the plan and have all the features I pay for. I would like a response from BlackBerry employee to explain this change.

I don't have the answer to your question "why", but this is what has been planned for at least three years.
