Currently with my Storm 2, and other blackberry models, when you sertup a VPN connection, you can only connect when you are connected to a wifi hotspot.

Will the new OS allow you to VPN over 3g?

Hi,

OS7 will be no different than OS5, VPN connections are supported over Wi-Fi only.

Although OS7 does not support IPSec over cellular, you are able to tunnel to a remote network using the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Although that’s not a traditional ‘VPN’ it is a VPN in practise.

Is there any information as to why its not supported? iphones can vpn over 3g, but the blackberry cannot. What about the new bbx?

Our legacy implementation was based ont he assumption that to get access to behind the firewall content a customer would use BES and MDS as they are connections optimised for cellular whereas VPN is not. We are looking to improve this going forward.
