Fail at "compiling WebWorks application".

Hey there.

As soon as i add the

<feature id="blackberry.advertising" />

line to my config file i am unable to compile the app anymore. I got a "call of an undefinded method WebworksAdExtension in ... tmpdir ... webworks\config\CustomData.as line 51 which looks like this:

"widgetExtensions" : new Array({"class" : new blackberry.advertising.WebworksAdExtension(),"requiredJSFiles" : new Array()},

when i replace the blackberry advertising feature with another feature like camera everything is fine.

HELP!!!!!!!!

What version of WebWorks SDK are you using?

Re: Fail at "compiling WebWorks application".

i'm using webworks 2.2.0.5 (for os x). i just copy the blackberry.advertising folder to "/Developer/SDKs/Research In Motion/BlackBerry WebWorks SDK for TabletOS 2.2.0.5/bbwp/ext". but it fails.

Using Ad lib BlackBerry_Advertising_Service_SDK_WW_1.0_B10

The advertising SDK is only for the BlackBerry smartphone OS at this time, it is not supported for the PlayBook.

Re: Fail at "compiling WebWorks application".

When do you plan to add the Ad Services to the BlackBerry PlayBook OS?

Is there another thread where this is discussed, I couldn't find one.

This is such important issue.

There's no timeline available for when this may be available, please watch the regular channels (Devblog, Twitter) for updates when this information becomes available.

Re: Fail at "compiling WebWorks application".

This is a bit disapointing.

That means we cannot have a WebWorks app that will work without modifications (fragmentation) across all WebWorks supported platforms.

That also means we cannot offer free PlayBook apps with ads to support them.

  • Q1: Is there are workaround for that situation?
  • Q2: Can we call the ads API directly from the JavaScript app?

This has *always* been the case. The PlayBook supports a subset of the WebWorks APIs available for the smartphone. This is because the PlayBook currently only supports a subsets of the underlying APIs that make up the WebWorks framework.

A1 - You could use your own custom ad service framework.

A2 - The officially supported Ad Service is only available to be called via Java at this time.
