Downloaded BB App World 3.1.0.58 tonight and now I have no App World icon. The app is listed in the applicatioins management listing, but does not seem executable w/o the icon. Is it running in background and is this part of the newe BB ID, or is this a problem? How to fix?

I thought I was the only one who had this issue. I also received the update notification and installed the update to Version 3.1.0.58, and the icon disappeared, I could see it in my application list, but there wasnt an icon. I had to re-download Appworld and install it, so I am back to 3.1.0.56, and the icon reappeared.
Interestingly when I re-checked to see if there was an update to v56, app world is not showing the update to v58 any longer. There may have been a mistake on RIM's part in pushing out this update is my speculation.

Same here. I was able to downgrade to the previous version and things got back to normal, but of course you get the upgrade "star" immediately. Tried again, and once again the application failed to have a launcher icon. It is in the phone (if you go to Options -> Application Management), but you can't launch it.
I hope they will release a fix soon (I'll wait a couple of days), if not just open your browser, search for "Blackberry App World" and click on a previous version.
On a purely editorial note, I am not sure all those layoffs helped RIM at all. We are falling further behind other systems and for Blackberry to have server outages and now a buggy App World release is simply not "professional grade". Sigh.
Happy holidays to the BB users still standing.

I actually didnt get the Upgrade Star after I reinstalled it... I even clicked on "Upgrades" in App World to see if it would push down again, but it didnt and hasnt so far as of this morning.
As for the editorial note, I am due for an upgrade, but not sure I am going to hang onto my BB as much as I love my BB. I would hate to be stuck with a device I am unable to upgrade for two years if RIM decides to go in a different direction. Considering the new handsets wont be out until late 2012 ...not sure I want to wait a whole year for the new QNX based devices and which may not be out until 2013. I am having visions of what happened to Palm (yes had one of those which I loved also)

I can only add "ditto" to your comments. I've worked in the tech field since the mid-80's and have reviewed many operating systems. Blackberry was a great system that has run its coarse. I'm considering switching from the BB platform just because I fear BB is becoming obsolete. Maybe it is time to return to my original idea: laptop and P.O.T. (plain old telephone).
One cannot go wrong with a laptop and a cell phone.

Have you tried to download the BB App world application on your BB? I would do that and install it and see if your apps come back. Do a search on your web browser for Blackberry App world download and go to the link and download it and reinstall...

Tried that, no matter what I do, I can't actually see any download link.

Did that multiple times, it even asks me while reinstalling to replace this .58 version with .56. But no icon show up after the install. I don't know if bb has released the .58 before it was properly tested.
