I have the same exact problem. The GPS on my 9900 was working fine until last night and now it simply does not work. For example, when I open Blackberry maps the app has a red "x" over the GPS locator button; however, when I go to "Location Settings" in the options menu, it shows that GPS is turned on but the phone does not provide my location. What is going on?

Welcome to the forums.
Have you verified with your wireless service provider that GPS is supported on your device? Some service provider offer their own GPS solutions and you will not able to use GPS unless you subscribe to their service.

UPDATE: I called Rogers, my network carrier, and they have a 3G outage in some areas of Toronto that will have an adverse effect on your phone's GPS if you happen to be in the area of the outage. If you have this problem, put the phone to 2G and the GPS will engage. Thanks to Rogers tech support that identified the problem right away! I am told that the 3G outage will be rectified shortly.

Hi, I had difficulty with my GPS cutting out on my BB9900 with OS7.1 - I started the phone in Safe Mode (hold down the back button during a reboot right up to the login) and it worked fine. I worked my way through each of the apps on my phone, adding them in and waiting a few minutes to see if the GPS was still functioning. Eventually, I found the app that was conflicting - WeatherEye, with the Location setting to ON was causing the issue. I removed WeatherEye, now it works fine.

I seem to have the opposite issue. WeatherEye does a great job of updating my location. However, the compass app is always incorrect and when I try and run Blackberry Traffic, it keeps saying "Acquiring GPS".
