Re: BB ID problem when changing sim card on bold 9900

Mahukka

With some thinking... i did the following and it works now.

1) Turned off mobile signals and wifi,

2) deleted service books and email settings

3) reboot phone

4) turned on mobile signal only

5) did a HRT

6) registered email

7) it works !

K, enough of this... its getting off topic :smileyhappy:

Re: BB ID problem when changing sim card on bold 9900

Sorry to disappoint mahukka,

After a day of using i realised the problem isn't really solved.

Newly composed emails always get "Pending" and not sent out. Replies to incoming mails did not have the "Send" option. Emails still reached the device unannounced and unsynced with server side.

I have started a new topic about this problem.

Re: BB ID problem when changing sim card on bold 9900

I recently had to switch sims when I travelled to Singapore. (I'm using the new BB Curve 9360)

Here's how I solved my problem when I switched back to my original sim:

Even if you're sure of your BB ID and Password it still says that it is incorrect and when you click on "Forgot my Password" it would say that your email address is incorrect or that you are not yet registered (even if you are). This hints that you are not connected to the internet nor are you on a data services plan.

Make an Emergency Call, then after a few seconds end the call so you will be redirected to the home screen. When you are on the home screen quickly enable WiFi by clicking the signal bar and checking enable WiFi. You will be able to use your phone as usual but the blue bb id sign in screen will appear after few seconds.

Go to a wifi area.

It will now accept your bb id and password.

Hope this works on your phone too :smileyhappy:

I guess the guys at RIM should fix this problem asap because you can't avoid traveling to a country with no data plans readily available.

Re: BB ID problem when changing sim card on bold 9900

Yes that's one of the solution suggested earlier. But making the emergency call may not be a good idea (there is a chance the emergency services received your call but it was cut off, and in the case of Singapore, it can be construed as a nuisance call).

The other solution, which i usually use is :

1. Retain your original SIM card in your new country,

2. Log in to a Wifi hotspot and ensure it is auto-login

3. Power off phone and do a SIM swap

4. switch on and wait around 4-5 mins. Phone should login to the previous Wifi automatically

5. Login BB ID.

BB should just resort to Phone-lock like how Nokia/Apple locks their phone whenever a New Sim is detected and a simple pin entry is sufficient.

Re: BB ID problem when changing sim card on bold 9900

Hello iperks2,

First of all, thanks for sharing!

I'd tried this workaround before, but I lose connectivity to BIS after logging in, i.e. HRT goes empty, so the BB is pretty much useless even though WiFi is available... However, I don't have a data plan on my second SIM card, maybe that is why?

So, let me ask you:

1/Just for reference, what O/S version is on your BB?

2/Do you have a data plan on your second SIM card?

3/Can you just successfully login thereafter, or does BIS (push e-mail, BBM, etc.) still work with your second SIM?

Can anyone shed some light?

Take care! :smileywink:

Re: BB ID problem when changing sim card on bold 9900

Dear osunax,

I find your questions are quite confusing.

Anyway, here is what i want to share with you.

Model: Blackberry Curve 9360 OS7
All your SIM cards have to be subscribed to BIS in order for you to use all the Blackberry functions i.e. Push Emails, BBM, Blackberry App World etc. If not, you won't be able to login to BIS.

When overseas, you have to make sure the foreign SIM card is subscribed to BIS. Otherwise, you can't use your Blackberry's functions.

Without BIS, your BB is practically useless.

Warmest Regards

Re: BB ID problem when changing sim card on bold 9900

Dear iperks2,

To ensure you are connected to the internet and your BIS data plan is active, this is what I think work best:

At BB ID Sign in bluescreen - go to "Forgot my password" and type in your username and "Security Question". If they can recognise the username, meaning you are safe to key in your blackberryid.

If they can't recognise anything, meaning don't waste your time and attempt.

Re: BB ID problem when changing sim card on bold 9900

chreesleki have answered most of your questions, yes, your second SIM must have a BIS service, BIS is SIM dependant not Internet/BB device dependant.

The most amazing thing about this whole issue is BB never mentioned anything about it...

just to let you guys know, in Indonesia (largest BB market outside N. America), many OS7 (9900 and 9790) buyers ended up selling their phones and bought back 9780 at the same 2010 price as they could not stand this problem and the battery problem.

Re: BB ID problem when changing sim card on bold 9900

Dear iperks2,

If we spend enough time to understand OS7, I think it is quite a good OS.

Well, we all have so little time especially the Indonesian people who spend most of their time on the road, stuck in jam.

Thanks!
