BBM problem

I just bought my phone on Monday and since then, I am not able to access BBM properly.  I've tried requesting friends, and they've tried requesting me.  But nothing.  They are still pending.  I took the battery out and restarted a couple of times, but it is still the same.  If anyone can help me with this problem, I will highly appreciate it.

How your contacts are being added? Through PIN or email?
