BOLD 9900 IS NOT CHARGING CORRECTLY, KEEPS TURNING OFF! PLEASE HELP!

Hi all, Please help,

Before i start, please note that I have replaced the Battery with a brand new one and i have 5 blackberry chargers in my house which all work on my partners phone....

BASICALLY.... My phone does not turn on unless it is plugged into the USB port on my laptop, as soon as i unplug it, turns off, also when i try to put it on charge i have to take the battery out, wait for the little red light to come on, then quickly plug the charger in so it charges...

PLEASE HELP ME, as the network i am with are completely useless and this is clearly an issue with the phone, as this is my 3rd bold 9900 and im starting to feel like im banging my head against a brick wall!

Re: BOLD 9900 IS NOT CHARGING CORRECTLY, KEEPS TURNING OFF! PLEASE HELP!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):

  1. With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
  2. Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
  3. Remove the battery
  4. Wait 15 minutes
  5. Insert the battery
  6. Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does

This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.

It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:

  1. Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
  2. Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens

The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. Please note that "new" and "known good" are not necessarily the same thing...while rare, a new battery certainly can be defective.

If the result is indeed that your BB is the root of the problem, then these next steps may apply:

Good luck and let us know!

Re: BOLD 9900 IS NOT CHARGING CORRECTLY, KEEPS TURNING OFF! PLEASE HELP!

hi, many thanks i will give this a go, however i think this sequence has more or less been tried, i am in the middle of doing an update on the phone so i am hoping this will fix things,

Also i have tried the batterys in my partners one and they are both working,

it is now staying on whilst its unplugged which is a bonus, however it seems to have stopped loading at 6% on social feeds section, it said before it may take upto 2 hrs, however mine has been on this for 1.5 hours, i cant see it moving? any extra help with  this??/

I thought so as well, but I also agree with "more or less"...the sequence I provide is intended to be conducted exactly as written so as provide the best diagnostic information possible.

Perhaps it will...good luck!

Ummm...I'm not quite sure I understood that bit...when you trade batteries with your partner, BOTH BBs work fine? Yours works fine with your partners battery, and your partners BB works fine with your battery?

Sometimes, that database causes problems...this KB might be useful, if you can do what it recommends:

  • KB29522 "Error backing up databases" message is generated at Smart Card Options database when backing up the BlackBerry smartphone using the BlackBerry Desktop Software

Good luck!

Re: BOLD 9900 IS NOT CHARGING CORRECTLY, KEEPS TURNING OFF! PLEASE HELP!

Ok, so i had followed some instructions from another persons comments on here,

(btw both my battery's worked in my partners phone, so battery not the problem,)

now i synced it to the blackberry desktop, which it connected at first allowing me to perform the update on therem however now, it is on a loop turning off  and on, reloading and coming up with an hour glass which spins round (never seen this before) and it flashes up on the screen half way through loading on the blackberry screen, linking java then goes blank and starts again! i have tried connecting it to the desktop however its not picking it up as its not on long enough before it re-starts.

any idea??? sorry this is driving me slightly mad! i had downloaded a blackberry sync and saved the data that way before all this, however cant afford to wipe my phone completely! as im not too sure what that particular programme saves.

Oh! You have 2 batteries. OK...now that makes sense. But, that is only half of the test. The full test is using your battery (or, in your case, batteries) in your partners BB as well as using your partners battery in your BB. If your partners BB works fine and yours does not, then I agree that the battery is not the issue. But, only conducting half of the test would, IMHO, lead to a less sure conclusion on that point.

I've already given you, in post 2 above (the last set of links), everything I know of to help this situation.

Good luck!
