Battery drain caused by MSN Messenger

I have a BlackBerry Bold, and recently I've been noticing on my BB 9000 that the 2 arrows on the upper right corner of the screen, the ones that denote sending and receiving data are always on, and this cause my battery to last less that a half a day without heavy use, just inside the holster.

I've tried everything, and discover that when y sign out my MSN Messenger the BB stop sending and receiving data.

After doing that my battery lasts up to 4 days in stand by.

Does anyone have the same result with MSN Messenger?

Re: Battery drain caused by MSN Messenger

Any application constantly communicating with the server will cause battery drain.

They key is that MSN should not be doing that.

Re: Battery drain caused by MSN Messenger

Just to let you know, there are issues in relation the using the holster in that it kills the battery for some reason.

I have MSN on all the time and i have no issues with it at all.

*Just remember, if u are using it all the time then it will use your battery very very quickly.

If i help solve your problem, Click that button to the right of the screen.

Thank you very much.

Re: Battery drain caused by MSN Messenger

The data communication is because Messenger needs to update your contacts' info and status permanently (Not you, but the people you have in your list...) Plus, if you activate the image visualization en options things just get worse. The trick is to limit data transfer to the maximum and the ideal solution would be for Messenger to let you decide the periodicity of the update so that instead of doing it every 30 sec for example, you could configure it to do it every 5 min say... But alas, I haven't found anything close yet...

Ah... and an additional **bleep**-bit of logical info: the more contacts you have, the more Messenger has to communicate with the server...

Maybe create a second MSN Messenger account for your BB with just the essential contacts?
