BlackBerry 6 OS Software Update

I have recently updated my software on my BlackBerry Bold 9700.  While I love the new look, I'm not too happy that the battery energy gets used up very quickly. I'm having to charge my phone up twice a day, every day since I updated it. Why is this?  After my phone is fully charged, I switch it off to save energy. Because I've noticed that after the phone's fully charged the phone doesn't always switch on when I press the power button, I've tried switching the phone on within a few seconds of having switched it off. It doesn't switch on.  Has anyone else had this problem?
