BlackBerry Bold 9900 won't startup

Hi there,

So it's gonna be a long message, sorry about this. Bear with me as I don't know much about blackberry (being an android user).

Okay so I have a BB 9900 BOLD, or as a matter of fact it's my father's.

He says it got stuck after he installed some "traffic" software downloaded from the BlackBerry store (or whatever it's called). He couldn't give me the name though (darn users :smileyvery-happy:).

Phone used to says soft error 200 upon bootup and get stuck there. we also got some error 600 or 606 (can't remember correctly). Couldn't start it up, and itwouldn't accept the password when on occasion it offered us to do so.

He tried resetting the phone as the support site explain (typing 10 wrong passwords and stuff) but it didn't do any good. The whole thing seemed quite broken anyway because upon boot it said password tries : 2/10 or 4/10 without us even having tried before...

And BB desktop wouldn't allow us in... wouldn't list software or anything.

Asked a friend at work who happens to be developping on BB, he couldn't get it much better than us, despite trying to factory reset the device.

Battery removing didn't do much good, soft reboot didn't either. I saw on internet that pressing "DEL" during boot was doing something... well it doesn't (or I did it wrong).

Given that our computers at work are restricted by proxy settings, we thought the BB desktop software couldn't download some random update that may have been needed to put things back in place.

Finaly after installing BB software on my own computer, I could reset and check to make a complete reset of the software. I also did a data wipe before going that far too.

Here is where I ended up and now I am really stuck :

1/ bootup
offers me to start the phone by configuring it, either with SIM on no SIM.

I say I don't have a SIM.

Says he his gonna show me some instructionnal video... nothing happens

the I get to a "blackberry plaform 5.0.0.496" titled screen, with a "uncaught exception : java.lang.nullpointerException"

Press ok

Some "clock / hourglass" shows up, I am being told it's the garbage collector running or something.

Shows up... ALOT like every 2 seconds.

Press ok until nullpointer goes away

Gives me another error :

application registry.waitFor(0xbfca09409ffe99e5) timeout

Then after pressing ok goes back to the previous java.lang.NullPointerException and then stay like this forever.

If I insist badly on pressing "OK", it eventually get to

"applicationregistry.getOrWaitFor(0x3826bb0c1bc02022) owner died Thread[thread-262253568,5]

In the background I can still see what I think is a list of current software :

(highlighted) : AdressBook
AltM...
AltP...
AltR...
AltV...
AltV...
BlackBerry Protect
BrickBreaker

the firs ones being hidden by the error popup... as for the rest well I can't scroll down.

What can I do from all of this ?

Thank you all for your help and ideas for solving this problem.

Re: BlackBerry Bold 9900 won't startup

See the link below for the download, and follow these simple installation instructions.

Download the OS file here:

https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/Downloads/contactFormPreload.do?code=8B6A80C3CF2CBD5F967063618DC5...

1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

You're welcome.

I don't know what two softwares you're referring to.

Re: BlackBerry Bold 9900 won't startup

Upping my topic :smileywink: It seems my father is still having issues with his BBB :smileysad:

Here is what happens :

- he connects his BB to the computer using the usb cable

- the computer recognize the BB

- BB software seems to see the BB

- BB seems to see that he his connected because the "charge / synchronize" screen shows up briefly, but not very long. it disappears straight away

And then well... that's as far as we can go...

I don't know much about BB as previously stated, so I am kinda stuck here to help my dad.

Someone would have an idea ? That would be awesome !

Thanks

Re: BlackBerry Bold 9900 won't startup

Try connecting to a different main rear PC USB port.
