Blackberry is alive again after all night in "coma".....
Steps undergo by my BB:
- White Screen with a sand clock for 1 hour.
- White Screen with message "Patch OS" for 2 or 3 hours.
- White Screen with message "Patch Java"
- ......"Lync Java"
then I went to sleep and this morning the BB was living again. Hope that with yours is the same...

this will be my LAST BlackBerry 9900.
My Upgrade is still stuck at 30% "Install - Uploading RAM Images " for the last 3 hrs.
The Blackberry desktop manage ris in "Disconnected" status.
Every software Upgrade is a terrible nightmare.
Lets all do RIM a favour - dump Blackberry and let the company file for bankruptcy.
Lets go for either iPhone or Samsung

Well, you may wish to wait and see if they will upgrade it to 10 like rumour has they're going to do with the Playbook.
Rule#1 with the 9900 seems to be that the amount of time it takes to update is inveresly proportional to the time alotted. I.E. If you're in a hurry don't update.

As you may have guessed by reading the whole thread it can take a while. Let it continue over night. If it still hasn't completed then you may need to pull the battery and reboot which should(?) default it back to where it was before. I hope you ran a backup of your data.
It's a great phone but it's the updater from hell. I don't understand how RIM could allow this travesty to happen.

Hi,
This has happened to me too. My Bold 9900 got messed up. It went into this new layout where everything is small and white options appear. Even when I take out the battery and put it back in, it still has the same weird layout and I don't know what to do. Should I restore it? And if I should, how?
Thanks.

You will need to use BBSAK or JL_Cmder to wipe the device and subsequently load the OS to the device. Follow the instructions here:

For BBSAK, here is the link: http://bbsak.org/

I ran the new update... it seemed to work.. update Java etc but then got stuck and gived me App Error 602. If I click on the small Reset button next to the error, it reboots and starts the process "Restoring Your Data" which has 2 fields: Module Groups restores 100% but Overall Restore stays at 0%, and then it is back to App Error 602 again!
I tried the latest Desktop client (version 7.1.0.33) which has a lot of trouble connecting to the device but finally succeeded in connecting and started a backup process but it was interrupted because the phone displayed App Error 602 again!
I really do not want to reset the phone because I have pics of a deceased relative on it that I do not wish to loose. I wish I can stop that Error from popping up during the backup process.
Any suggestions on what I might try?
Thanks everyone!

For starters check the backup folder on your desktop to see if those images may have already been backed up. If you get the phone to start a restoration try using alt / aA / del to initiate a restart as opposed to pulling the battery.
