Whenever I back up my Bold 9900 (this didn't happen with my previous Bold
9870) it backs up everything, and then the progress bar freezes at the
*Backing up Smart Card Options 1 of 1 Record*
I have been waiting a long long time maybe around 3 hours up to now and
still i haven't been able to back up my stuff! So my questions are:
1. What are these 'Smart Card Options'? I have never used whatever they are.
2. Why do they freeze my backup progress?
3. How do I stop this backing up and freezing my phone?
4. I need a solution and i need to backup my things its necessary because I
don't want to lose my data
5.) I have never experienced this before with my previous phones, this is
the first time, usually it took 3-4 minutes to backup

Same thing happens to me at the exact screen as first poster.
Don't understand it.
It just freezes up the whole phone then, so not only am I unable to backup my files, it withdraws my capability to access other functions such as the planner sync and application edits.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Also , my phone every couple of weeks or so just goes onto a go slow until i do a battery pull, why would this be? are they all like this or should i get it replaced in warranty?

Exact same thing happens to me!
I just want to update my Blackberry OS! I've even tried purging most of my saved messages and settings to try and minimize the amount of stuff it can freeze on. But whatever this "Smart Card Options" category is keeps killing me!

I just got around this problem by doing a custom backup and excluding social feeds.
It may not be a perfect solution but it works.

My phone will not even connect to the desktop manager now? on the screen when you plug it in, the handset icon and the PC are not connected by a wire, yet it identifies it is obviously connected somewhat because the screen appears?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
