I tried to upgrade my Blackberry OS to 5.0, but it ends up with the dialog (see image below), which shows the information that in order to upgrade the OS 4.6 to 5.0 I must have an active Blackberry subscription. Well I am not 100% sure what the Blackberry subscription is, but when i went to the link suggested in the dialog, i.e. www.blackberry/service, there was said that I need a data plan to upgrade the OS. On Internet there are many peoples discussing the similar problem...
What I can do? Does this means that to upgrade my OS I need to contact the service provider (mobile network operator), pay for the data plan (which I do not need), which will enable Blackberry subscription and only after this will be done I will be able to upgrade the OS?
Thanks a lot

Everything you have interpreted from that message is correct -- one must have an active Blackberry Data Plan from their carrier in order to upgrade to device OS 5.0.x.x. See this FAQ for the various features available with various data plans:
Personally, I can see no reason to have a BB without a data plan, but that's just me I suppose.

Thanks for your answer. Let me explain my situation:
The thing is that I am developer and I have dozens of data SIM cards and few Blackberry Bold 9000 phones I have NOT bought from an mobile network operator/carrier. In order to do a project I have to upgrade those phones, which probably means that for every single phone I need to have a data plan + I worry that the operator will not accept my devices, but I will get the data plan only with their devices...

I haven't upgraded my 9000 yet but planning to do so soon. Here is a link to another forum that describes how to upgrade the phone without using Desktop Manager. You can do it by using the application loader (loader.exe) on your computer.
Hope this helps
