Blackberry Bold 9790 Won't Turn On

So, I've had my Blackberry Bold 9790 for over a year now. And just yesterday it started playing up. It completely froze at first (without the little timer in the middle of the screen) and it wouldn't unfreeze. So i went to restart it (control, alt+del button/remove battery) and so the red light come on, and the start up screen came on. It loaded but it just loaded onto a black screen. I eventually got it working yesterday, after restarting it multiple times. It has repeatedly done this numerous times, however, I've managed to get it working.

Today at around 2:30, it did it again, me thinking no more of it just went to restart it, but it won't fully come on, the blackberry start up screen comes on etc...but it's just a blank screen. I have restarted my phone over 50 times, by taking the battery out. I've plugged it into my laptop, but Blackberry Desktop Manager won't recognize it because it's not fully coming on. I've tried plugging it into the wall, I've removed both the battery and sim and left them out for about an hour. Nothing is working. And I have no warranty or insurance on my phone :smileysad: Can someone please help as this phone means a lot to me, there are so many memories on it, and the thought of losing all of them kills me :smileysad:

Re: Blackberry Bold 9790 Won't Turn On

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):

  1. With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
  2. Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
  3. Remove the battery
  4. Wait 15 minutes
  5. Insert the battery
  6. Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does

This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.

It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:

  1. Obtain an known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
  2. Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens

The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.

Otherwise, I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:

  • KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.

If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.

But if the behavior continues in Safe Mode, then you may need to consider more drastic actions -- WIPE, OS Reload, BBSAK Wipe/Reload, and the "Bare Bones" OS Reload Process. To prepare, you should be sure that you have a full backup to your PC...please review the Backup link in my auto-sig on this post for instructions.

You may also need the use of these tricks:

If you can ever get it running, in any state (including SAFE), immediately conduct a full backup...you can find instructions via the link in my auto-sig on this post.

Good luck and let us know!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

The answer to your question is yes...hence the words, before step 1 of that process, of:

  • "note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB)"

Good luck!

Re: Blackberry Bold 9790 Won't Turn On

Well, before spending money to do that, you might try the second section of post 2 above. That way, without spending money, you could determine if the battery itself is actually causal.

Good luck!
