Hi All - Is there a solution to this problem?
When I got my BB Bold in January, the loudspeaker was really loud and I could hear any media played on it or ring tones even on lower volume but over the last few weeks its become really mute and whatever I try to do to increase the volume fails to succeed (including changing volume options, re-booting etc), as a result I miss many calls. I have read elsewhere on the board that I am not the only one with this problem and wonder whether there's a solution available to download or similar, before I am forced to send my handset to Blackberry to fix / replace.
Hope someone can help.

I am having the exact same problem. Suddenly speaker volume is very soft, so I often miss calls. Things I've tried:
- removing the battery for 3 mins
- changing my profile to "High" volume
- turning audioboost on
- creating a custom ringtone with high volume
This last approach worked briefly (i.e. I could hear the ringtone when I had an incoming call), but after less than half a day my ringtones went back to being barely audible, resulting in missed calls.
My workaround is just to have the phone vibrate, but of course that's not the real fix.
Also, this volume issue is not just with ringtones, sample music files are also barely audible when I play them in the Media Player.

Same problem here:
I got the Bold 2 months ago. Everything worked great. The sounds (ring tone and media player) were loud and clear. Then one day i recognized, my alarm clock was kinda really quiet. Later i caught myself on not hearing incoming calls. After that I tried to find out what happend, changing every setting to "loud as hell". Nothing worked. The sound was really low and also theres was this silent scratchy sound (let's not concetrate on that). I ran the media player, played a movie and started shacking my Blackberry, then gently hit it on its back and suddenly everything worked fine! The sound was loud again!
I recognized, that there are 2 holes, where the sound comes out, a left and a right. When my phone went silent only the right hole blew the sounds out, the left did nothing. After bringing the phone back to normal, the sound went out on both sides, makin it sound like it should.
And now - this crap came back again. It's silent again. No hiting, no begging, no nothing helps. I'm really really mad about that. Every freakin Nokia user is laughing at me...
I also found out, that the phone gets even more silent, when you squeeze the top, so this is definitly something with the technology, not the software or settings. Maybe the case is to tight, so this **bleep** speaker can't blow one sound away. It would be nice, if there was an official statement or solution from RIM, because this thing is starting to freak me out. Also there are soo many other users having similiar issues, so?
btw - no reseting, increasing loudness while calling, updates, upgrades, wellwishing - NOTHING FREAKY HELPS!
and I am not really into the idea of sending the Bold to service

Hello,
The usual fix is to reload the OS....
HOWEVER....
if holding/pressing the top of the devcie causes the sound to come out loud (as per one persons post), then the devcie is faulty and will need to be sent back to the carreir for RIM Repair.
Sorry.
