Woke up this morning to discover my keypad on my blackberry wasn't working, my touch screen is but I still can not go on anything as I can't then get off it again. Also whenever I manage to get on my messages through the touch screen all that comes up over and over is iyiyiyiy I don't understand what could have caused this and have no idea how to sort it. I have tried removing the battery and cleaning it all but nothing seems to help. Any suggestions please?

Greetings, and welcome to the BlackBerry.com Community Support Forums.
It sounds like what I have seen multiple times on a device with moisture damage (the non working keyboard and the "iyiyiyiy" entries).
Even sitting on a bathroom counter during a hot steamy shower or bath, a gym locker, can cause keyboard and trackball problems UNTIL properly dried out. It really is more common than you think.
1. Remove the battery immediately!! Do not attempt to turn on your BlackBerry.
2. Let the device dry in a warm, dry place for 4 to 5 days* (see below)
3. DO NOT "check it each day" by placing the battery in. Leave it be to dry completely. This takes time. Replacing the battery to check it can only damage it more (moisture + electrical current = disaster).
4. If the device is warm after the drying period, allow it to cool to room temperature before placing the battery back in.
Suggestions on drying your BlackBerry in a warm place (open, with the battery out):
*Place the BB in a container of dry UNcooked rice, and then you might also place it in any of the locations mentioned below.
*On top of any dry heat emitting electronic component: TV cabinet or CRT, LCD, cable TV/Satellite converter box or plasma monitor
*On the dashboard of your car on a sunny day

i have the same problem with my BB bold 9930...it happened about 5 times in the last 3 months that the keypad stops workin for a while despite the hard reset, and it stays that way for about 4-5hrs, then starts working on its own. when it stops working all i get each time i press the back key is "jkjkjkj" n it goes on as long as d backlight goes off and i press the back key or trackpad.
now, my BB keypad has been off for 24hrs, despite hard reset and even allowing the phone to remain switched off. dunno what to do, i love my phone :'(

Hi - I'm having a similar problem. My phone will restart and I'll see the homescreen, but I'm not able to type in my password to unlock my phone. No button works. How do I unlock this? Help!
