Accepted Solution

Bold 9650 & os7.1

Is it safe to assume that my Blackberry Bold 9650 is not compatible with the new os7.1?

I recently did an upgrade for my os and it said I was running the most current available 6.0

I guess I was hoping that I would be able to download the new os7.1 to my phone.  Mainly wanted

the Hot Spot application.

Thanks in advanced.

Bob

Re: Bold 9650 & os7.1

Hey, it's safe to assume... and a fact.

The 9650 won't be getting the 7.1 upgrade, nor the 7.0 upgrade.

Re: Bold 9650 & os7.1

I believe its the RAM,  OS7 requires substantially more RAM to run the liquid graphics.

I have a 9700 and have the same problem, only 256MB of RAM.

I think devices with 512+MB RAM can get the OS7 update, those of us unfortunate enough to have gotten our BB's before the RAM additon to (i think) the 9800 and up.

I have not failed, I've found 10,000 ways that did not work. -T.Edison

Re: Bold 9650 & os7.1

I had to switch back to my backup phone, aka Bold 9650, and oh how I miss my Android device.  This Bold has a quality build and I like having the keyboard again.  But it's so slow and yes, I really, really miss that hotspot feature I used to have on the Android device.  (RIM, take notes!!)

Re: Bold 9650 & os7.1

Your best bet would probably be getting the new Bold. The 9650 can only run OS ver 6, which is known to have issues. But you might want to hold out and see if RIM would release another Bold with better hardware specifications. Their current flagship Bold line is somewhat behind the times. A premium device, such as the Bold, should have at least a dual core processor, 2MP front facing camera for video chat/conferencing, at least 8MP rear camera with auto-focus, anti-shake, etc ..features, , at least 1GB of RAM for multitasking. The current Bold doesn't have any of that, and its battery drains really quick. My friends' Bold's can't even last the 8-hour work day on a full charge.

Re: Bold 9650 & os7.1

I would highly advise NONE of you in Africa to be purchasing CDMA model BlackBerry, but instead get the dedicated GSM-network devices.

CDMA models, such aa the 9530, 9650, etc., can work ok on GSM networks, but not ideally, and you will be disappointed in the performance of those models being used on GSM networks in African countries.

Good luck.
