Bold 9790 "Connection Preferences" missing

I bought the Bold 9790 to use UMA access for cell usage from a WiFi connection where there is no cellular service (from any carrier).

You are supposed to be able to set this:

Bold Connection Preferences

but "Connection Preferences" does not appear on this phone.

I seem to have the right Service Books.

I do pay for the UMA (WiFi) option with Fido.

There is another site that suggests that there is a really painful way to get it going:

BB UMA Access

There must be a simpler way to get access to "Connection Preferences".

There was a previous posting on this in 2012 that was never answered.

Does Fido specifically state that UMA is an available feature? I only ask because Fido is owned by Rogers and I'm not sure UMA calling is available with them. I just want to make sure you didn't get the impression that because you can browse on Wi-Fi you can also call on Wi-Fi.

And for goodness sake, DO NOT TOUCH THE ENGINEERING SCREENS.....Just don't do it, it's not worth the agony if you mess anything up.

Cheers.  :smileyhappy:

Yes, UMA calling is available from Fido.  There are different price plans:

Re: Bold 9790 "Connection Preferences" missing

Thank you for your reply. I've learned to always start at the very beginning with the questions so as to not miss anything.

The next thing to investigate is whether you're running the latest version of OS available from Fido. You say you have the necessary service books (though it never hurts to resend them) so now you'll want to make sure you're running a new OS.

Check your phone for OS version then compare it to what Fido currently offers:

http://ca.blackberry.com/support/apps-and-software/desktop-and-device-download-sites.html (find Fido in the list)

Have a look at that and post back.  :smileyhappy:

Re: Bold 9790 "Connection Preferences" missing

I notice in the Fido version download page that there are difference "current" software versions:

7.1.0.2885

7.1.0.2257

7.1.0.1647

7.0.0.2254

Does this mean that there are different firmware versions of the Bold 9790 which can only support the 7.0.xxx (or 7.1.xxx) software packages, or is it simply to give use version choices ?

Re: Bold 9790 "Connection Preferences" missing (Fido UMA/Wifi cell calling setup)

[ Edited ]

I should have said that this question is specific to Fido in Canada.

According to all I have seen, the Engineering screens are the only way to get UMA calling working.

The seven fields that have to be filled are:

mobile network engineering screens/utilities/session manager,

“UMA options”. Create a new setting and enter the following:

Display name: Factory Provisioning
Operator name: <-- (could be fido)
UMA protocol version <-- (could be "UMA v. 1.0.4" or "3GPP rev. 6" or something else (pulldown menu))
 Provisioning UNC address:
Provisioning UNC port: <-- (usually 14001)
 Provisioning SEGW address:
 SEGW certificate:

Before that you also need a certificate of some sort that is pointed to by "SEGW certificate".

After digging I did find these values for Rogers, and Orange.
