I have this problem too, getting the run around from the retailer I got it from.
My trackpad also resores to a TrackBALL in the settings, and then is will not scroll at all.

I struggled for a long time with that problem. Its not software problem. Its just hardware. Particulary trackpad.
2 weeks ago I ordered some replacement part from internet. In 7 days it was delivered.
I changed whole keypad with trackpad and you cant imagine IT WORKS NOW PERFECT!!! ;-)

Having the same issue, 2 BB 9900 at the office have started doing it as well (did software update + complete wipe of os) still the same issue.
now mine started aaaaggggg!!!!!
I am going to ask for a new devices
I think when Contracts come to an end, i think blackberry will come to an end too in my office.
Blackberry\RIM (we have 30 BB's) we moving to iPhone.
