I am still astonished that we have not heard anything formal about this - even if RIM were insisting on keeping quiet, surely one of the carriers would have been fed up with the vast number of units being returned to them and made some sort of announcement!

I got mine oct 14. In less than 3 weeks, the phone flashed the red light. Does anybody have any news from Rim on this? Thanks

third blackberry replaced in the past 6 weeks.
1. battery dead on arrival
2. defective trackpad scorlling endlessly
3. left phone to charge overnight. used it in the middle of the night to check emails. woke up. dead phone.

waiting for my fourth 9930. awesome. this is so awesome. this is not even counting for the lost data. and now with the replacement i have to endure sleepless night worrying if my phone will turn on in the morning and whether i have to make yet another trip to verizon. thank RIM for all your "support".

at some point someone has to take some responsibility.

I also got my blackberry on the 9th of october, and the JVM 517 error happen on the 2nd of November, not even a month later!!!!

Bro i had mine alive for exactly 21 days, Ive wrote a blog post on it.

Mate, those JVM codes are not what is happening here, these are phones that wont turn on, no feedback, no error codes, just a flashing red light. RIM has not spoken about it

still no word from RIM. wonder how many threads like this get ignored and buried. i wonder if this hardware issue is the reason why ATT delayed releasing the phone by so long. wonder what the truth behind all this is...

I have this same problem but I got mine online and its still under warranty. What exactly do we do? Can we send it back to RIM?? Have you fixed yours?
