Bold 9900 random reboots

Hi everyone. A couple of weeks ago I traded in my 9630 for a 9900 and love it but recently the device has been doing random soft resets for no apparent reason. It first happened when I was dubugging on it, now it happens during routine use.

Re: Bold 9900 random reboots

  • What was this "debugging it" process you did?
  • What is your Operating System loaded to your device? Look at Options > Device > About, third line down beginning with a "v.7.0.x.xxx", What is yours?

Re: Bold 9900 random reboots

I have had 3 different 9900's in the last week and a half. They ALL randomly rebooted. On the 3rd handset I installed NO apps and did NO upgrading of anything and it still happened. I am running the .261 version of OS7. According to another forum this version isn't as stable -- but right now my provider (Telus Mobility) is only supplying us with that one. According to this same forum .296 is the version you want -- not .317 -- but I can't prove that yet as I don't know how to acquire said version outside of my providers regular upgrades.

The positive side is the reboot time is a fraction of what it was on my old BB.

Re: Bold 9900 random reboots

Device software v.7.0.0.261 is very glitchy. The Rogers version caused a number of headaches for me, most notably complete and random signal loss. I could be next to the tower and the phone would lose signal.

I've had the firmware upgraded and it's stable now - no more signal drops. Supposedly it's not that difficult to upgrade firmware, too afraid to do it myself, but it there are instructions on the internet how to upgrade the firmware.

I only had 30 days to exchange it. Guess I'm stuck with this.

And, you have a one year warranty on the device hardware.

Meanwhile, I'd highly recommend you upgrade to the most recent OS 7.0.0.353 for this model.
