Can't turn "ringer" back on

I have gone into the profile for phone and checked that the volume is at 10, but even when I "try it" I don't hear any audio for my ring tone. When my phone rings (thank goodness for at least a vibration), along the botton of the screen it says "ringer off" and I cannot get it to turn back on. Very frustrating - can anyone help? Thanks.

Re: Can't turn "ringer" back on

First thing to do is to remove your battery while your phone is powered on.  If that doesn't solve the problem, make sure once you add a ringtone to a profile, you first press the menu key and select Save before exiting the ringtone setup.

Hi,

Thanks for your response - I tried the two things you suggested and it is not resolved. Any other suggestions?

Re: Can't turn "ringer" back on

Let's try an OS reload, since those two suggestions (which should work) are not working.

Plug your phone into your PC via USB and open BlackBerry Desktop Software.  Once your phone has connected to it, do a data backup.  Once the backup has completed, click Device at the top of the software and Restore from the drop-down menu.  Choose the most recent restore point and proceed to restore your phone with it.  If you've never done a backup with the software, click Device at the top and Update from the drop-down menu.  If you're offered a newer OS version and you wish to accept it, proceed.  If you're not offered a newer version of if you are but don't wish to accept it, simply click View Other Versions.  Find the one that is marked Current, make sure it's checked and proceed with the reload.

Once your phone has rebooted, try once again to set your ringtone.

Re: Can't turn "ringer" back on

My phone was activated march 8.  Since then I have had to pull out battery 3 x (not impressed - especially because I bought an otterbox and it's a pain to remove).  I kept wondering why I never got calls - well, my ringer is turned off.  I fiddled and now I have a ringer - but it still says turned off despite the fact the thing is ringing.   I have this phone for 3 more years - is this going to be my life with it?
