Canadian SIM card compatibility with Asia

I'm new with blackberries so bear with me if this has an obvious answer! My service provider in Canada is FIDO and they use a SIM card (think it's called GSM?). Does anyone know if the Blackberries in Hong Kong/Asia use the same system? Does that mean that if a Blackberry says that it uses GSM, it will be compatible as long as I unlock it?

Re: Canadian SIM card compatibility with Asia

As long as the Asian Blackberry is UNLOCKED and is GSM, you may be able to use it on the Fido network back in Canada.

One thing to keep an eye out for is the actually BIS or Blackberry Web Client account. If one does exist and is listed as "suspended", you need to ensure that the previous carrier detaches this username from the device PIN.

Otherwise, you will not be able to use the Blackberry Dat afeatures on the Fido network, even if you do subscribe to their Blackberry Data plan.

Thanks so much! How do I make sure that the previous carrier detaches the username from the device PIN?
