I bought a new Bold in Bangkok, from a reputable dealer. After the box was unsealed I inserted my SIM, which is for Dialog Sri Lanka (I live there) and phoned home. The phone worked fine. When I returned to Sri Lanka I asked Dialog to open an account for me on their BB server. They entered the IMEI and PIN and repeatedly got the same error message <<Invalid PIN or IMEI format>>. They do not know how to solve this problem and say they have never seen this message before.
What is the problem and how can it be resolved?
Thanks!

Hi,
The device must have a BB data connection when you attempt to add it to the BIS website.
The BIS website will communicate to the devcie otherwise you'll get that error.
Basically you cant add a device that cant communicate to RIM.
Do you get the 3GBB logo in the top right hand corner?
Can you go to Options -> Advanced-> Hsot Routing Table-> Register Now?
Did you get the Messages-> Registration Message?
Can you add the BB to the website now?

Thanks for your clear message.
I do not believe that I am communicating with RIM.
I have a 3G logo in top right, but no BB logo.
Host Routing Table - first I got *No entries*. So I pressed the BB logo menu key and got 'Register Now'. I pushed the trackball and got 'Registration message sent'. I pushed OK.
I went to the carrier's registration web page inputted the PIN and IMEI and got the same message --- invalid format.
Any suggestion how I can fix this?

I have the exact same problem with my blackberry bold. I tried all you mentioned above but I can't get it right. The blackberry registration site returns the error about wrong pin or invalid imei format. I bought my phone online and I can't get it to work. I went to the carriers office in my city and they say that it is not posible to activate the phone if they can't registrer it online.
What can I do? How can I request an activation for my phone???
Please help.

Hi... my result was BAD news. RIM told me that I had bought a fake. It will never get connected to RIM servers. You need to contact the RIM office nearest to you and explain the position to the security team.
