Editing the auto-complete address list

Is there any way to selectively edit the auto-complete list that appears when one starts typing in an email address in the compose email screen?

 

I understand that the feature can be turned off but can individual entries be removed from the list?

The "list" only composed of those emails which you have recently received. It can't be edited.
