I have had my Blackberry 9700 since July 2010 with no problem until this past week it has stopped making and receiving phone calls and I can't send or receive SMS. When I try to make a call, it instantly comes up with "Call Failed". I have talked to my carrier (o2) and they too cannot come up with a fix, there is no issue from there part as the sim card works fine on another phone. Strange thing is I can still use the internet on 3G, send and receive emails and my BBM works.

In Manage Connections >> Services Status, it says:

Status: not available

Connection: not connected

Blackberry internet service:

Connection: Mobile network

Have you done a simple reboot on the device?  With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

If so, and it still doesn't work, I would suggest that get an easy SIM card swap at your service provider store. EVEN if that SIM card works in another phone, try this. I've seen it be solved very many times.

Hi J, thanks for your reply, i have tried the simple reboot, i have even downgraded & upgraded the os but to no avail. What do you mean by "sim card swap" ? putting a new sim card into my device?

What else have you done... that way we don't have to play guessing games.

I have been having the same problem, I can not even get the Internet to work, Earlier a simple reboot would help solve the problem but now even that does not work.

Yeh its very strange, but my internent, emails and bbm all work fine, its just the calls and sms!

Mine is the same, I have up graded firmware/down graded firmware, I can access the internet from it but can't make or receive any calls or text..... Any idea?

You just need to switch to 2G for mobile network each time you are about to send sms and that's all.

Switch back to 3G after you are done with sms so that you get back the 3G internet browsing speed. Try it...

i too having the same issue,cant call or receivez.rebooted fone,totally wiped my fone and still nothing
