It isn't really the fact that it "shipped" with it.
It's the fact that no prior OS's for the particular device have ever been released. The 9700 was released into the public with OS 5.0.0.xxx and never had anything lower than that built for it. You just won't find OS 4.6 or 4.7 for a 9700. The 9800 was released with OS 6 and nothing lower than that exists for it. You can't put OS 5 on it because you won't find it because it doesn't exist..
The 8900 was released with OS 4.6 so you won't find an OS 4.5 for it. It's possible that they might run those OS's but they were just never written so they don't exist.

This enhanced chat interface does not work for me either. I agree with everything you stated - I am NOT 15 and I want a more professional texting application. If this is the "new way forward' for BB, my next phone will be any phone that is NOT a BB. I am extremely disappointed. Why fix something that is not broken?

I AGREE. RIM who do you think your base customer are that have been buying your products all these years?! I know you are trying to get the younger generation interested in the BB but you did NOT survey current customers as to how they use SMS on this device or their attitudes towards social media chat. If you did you would find most business users have NO USE FOR IT and consider it a WASTE OF TIME.
I hope you are reading this because you WILL LOSE CUSTOMERS over this sort of arrogance-just changing things that are working great without consultation means frustration for current bueiness users. Frustration over not been asked and much frustration over negotiating a new feature that was not requested, not useful and down right bloody annoying.
The time of blanket upgrades is over. How about offering more choice when 'upgrading' with an advanced feature where the user can choose the feature to upgrade. I too will find another device is I have to continue to use this useless and frustrating sms chat tool. My reaction is not overkill and I am sure many current business users feel the same way.
Do a poll.

I have been having a major issue with the sms also. For a legal reason, I need to be able to copy and email an entire sms conversation. I have tried everything that I can think of and it will only let me do this one text at a time. Is there anything that I can do so that I can print out the whole conversation that I had via sms? Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!!
