Locking/Unlocking options

Maiden post. Be kind to me!

I'm here on behalf of a friend (he delivers my medications, so you could say that he saves my life) who has inherited a BlackBerry Bold 9700(I think) from his son. His son insisted on his setting a password (wise) but now he has to unlock it almost every time he uses it.

Is it possible to be prompted for the password upon power-on, but not after that?

What choices are available? I skimmed the manual but there didn't seem to be many lock/unlock choices.

I've seen "Make call while locked" but yesterday he wanted to add a phone number to his contacts, and that required a password.

We're both of us in our 60's and out our stage, the need for security dwindles in the face of ease-of-use...

Re: Locking/Unlocking options

Hi Swiftie,

Welcome to BlackBerry support community fourms.

By default there is no option to set password prompt for device powered only. However, you can consider using 3rd party device lock/unlock app for that purpose.

Alternatively, you can try enabling SIM PIN request which will be asked on powered only.

Ah, yes, the SIM PIN password. I think that's how I run my own phone, and have for several generations of phone.

Thank you!
