Hi, all. Quick note to RIM from a crackberry addict. ![]()
We've all seen rumors about a new berry that offers touch screen and a full keyboard + 3G support. Since I'm an old Palm Treo guy, I have to say that the form factor is fantastic!!! I can't wait for it.
HOWEVER, I feel that RIM should not remove the track ball. Touch screen can enhance the user's interaction with the phone, but touch capability should not replace the track ball.
Maybe I think this because I'm an old Treo user -- where touch and button navigation has been available for years. When using my Treo's, I found myself navigating by touch and by nav buttons (Treo's use nav buttons instead of track balls) pretty evenly: 50% of the time by touch, 50% of the time by nav button.
Having both touch and a track ball would be incredibly comfortable. It just makes better sense to have both forms of navigation at the user's finger tips, imho. I hope that RIM will consider this in future developments as I just think RIM is making a mistake by eliminating the track ball.
Thank you! ![]()

I am also a Palm Treo user. I have an old Palm that I don't want to let go. I can touch, use a stylus, the pad to move around the screen or use qwerty keyboard. Sadly, Palm new smartphones do not offer all-in-one features anymore. I've have been considering Blackberry for a couple of years but theirs is either touch or qwerty but not like the old Palm Treos.
Blackberry, if you are reading this, please come out with a new phone that allows me to use a qwertyboard, ball or similar, touch with my fingers or a stylus or pencil, pen, whatever I have. Reason for the stylus is because sometimes my finger doesn't hit exactly where I need it to highlight. Sadly for Palm, there qwerty is too small. Many of the newer touch phones are limited to finger heat sensor - bad move because many people for some reason don't always make the connection. I have many friends with that problem and they are now giving up the touch phones. I love the physical feel of a keyboard.
Blackberry, you would give the door to give these options and everyone. As in music, sometimes the old standards are still better than the new.
