Hi Guys,

I've had my Bold 9700 for a few days now - overall very satisfied. I'm an iPhone switcher and I'm kicking myself that I didn't make the switch months ago!

Nevertheless - one small issue! Whenever I get a new email message (I've set up my Gmail account on the phone) the notification icon beside the envelope doesn't appear. I'm getting the mega-small icon in the top bar, but the red asterisk isn't appearing on my larger Gmail icon (the one that appears on the bottom dock thing.

What's confusing me is that it IS appearing on the 'Messages' icon. Any clues as to why this is happening there but not on y Gmail mail icon? I've looked through the settings but can't seem to find anything.

P.S. tried two battery pulls and haven't been successful so far!

1. Click into your email

2. Click BlackBerry button

3. Scroll down and select 'Options'

4. Select 'General options'

5. Make sure 'Display New Message Indicator' says 'Yes'

Sadly no such option exists. I'm running v5.0.0.586 (Platform 5.1.0.146).

There's no 'Display New Message Indicator' option in there

So when you click 'Options' (actually within your email listing) do you get the following ?

Message Options

 General Options

 Inbox Settings

 Email Settings

 Email Reconciliation

 Spell Check

And when you select 'General options' you don't get the option 'Display New Message Indicator' ?

Nope. And the last time I checked I wasn't blind or crazy, so I'm hoping something isn't wrong up there haha.

Once I select General Options I get:

- Display Time

- Display Name

- Display Order

- Display Message Header On

- Display Message Count

- Hide Read Field Messages

- Hide Sent Messages

- Separators

Then the Actions options.

I'm clueless on this one!

Weird.

On mine it's between Display Message Count & Hide Read Filed Messages.

Maybe get latest version?

I am on v5.0.0.593 (Platform 5.1.0.147)

Although I have always got the red asterix for new messages.

Hmm weird thing is that I recall it working before I did the upgrade. I'm on Vodafone (AUS).

Not sure why this is happening. Might give Blackberry a call tomorrow. Anyone who has any ideas feel free to share

Haven't rung yet - but tried something else.

I resotred my phone to faxctory default and the 'Display New Message Indicator' option is there.

The only difference is that I haven't plugged it into my computer in and pressed 'Update' yet. Maybe I'll skip doing this? Might be the solution after all

**UPDATE:

For testing purposes I just presse 'Update' and it said I have the most recent upgrade installed on my 9700. Weird stuff. Oh well, consider this solved for now!
