Manually check for OS updates on Blackberry.com site

Does anyone know or have a link to the OS Upgrade page on Blackberry.com?  I cannot find it.  All I want to do is to check to see if there is an update for the OS on my BOLD.   I have seen in some forms that there is a 5.0 update for BOLD for Wind Hellas(?)  What is that and can I install it on my AT&T BOLD?  I read it has been done with no problems by a few people here in the states.  Please let me know.  I don't want to have to purchase a new phone to get an OS update!

More like "many".

Device operating system releases are "released" by specific carriers once they have certified and trained their support techs, but still, you are able to load to any carrier's same model by following the instructions below.

See the link below, for the download and the simple installation instructions below.

http://www.blackberryforums.com/general-9000-series-discussion-bold/224029-latest-os-9000-5-0-0-1004...

Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion.

1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

Re: Manually check for OS updates on Blackberry.com site

Thanks J. Sanders! Does it matter if the OS update is from Azercell or Wall Hellas?

Re: Manually check for OS updates on Blackberry.com site

It doesn't matter. It is an officially RIM released OS version. There will be no azercell branding to the OS release as you follow those directions I posted above.

Some users might worry they will void their device warranty by loading an OS from another carrier. There is really nothing to worry about.

Please read more information on that here:

Re: Manually check for OS updates on Blackberry.com site

Ok thanks.  When I backup everything, how do I know it got ALL of my applications and data?  I want to be sure it gets everything so I don't have to reinstall ANYTHING!

Re: Manually check for OS updates on Blackberry.com site

A Desktop Manager backup won't contain your third party applications, but your device upgrade backup and restore should do so.

For safety sakes, I often make a separate backup of my third party application.

Read this instructions:

Re: Manually check for OS updates on Blackberry.com site

What about carrier specific updates (if any)? Willi still get them AT&T or Azercell? Also, will my display show Azercell insttead of AT&T? Can I still use desktop manager for syncing? Any issues you foresee?

Re: Manually check for OS updates on Blackberry.com site

Read my post and link again. Loading another carrier's OS to your device will no affect any branding of the device.

You will still get your ATT updates. From ATT.

You will not EVER see anything about Azercell on your device.

You will still useDM for syncing as always. Nothing on that changes.

Read this for surety.

Re: Manually check for OS updates on Blackberry.com site

Good luck, you'll be fine.

Do the backup first, using Desktop Manager.

Then CLOSE Desktop Manager completely on your PC and proceed with the install instrucitons I posted above.
