Media card problems

My wife just got a Blackberry Bold.  We're having a lot of trouble with it.

I bought a 4GB Kingston media card and installed it.  I go to Settings->Options->Memory.  I have Media Card Support "On"; Encryption Mode "None"; Mass Storage Mode Support "On"; Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode.... "Yes".  Device says "A media card is not presently inserted in the device".  As far as I am aware, it is.  Tried taking it out making sure it is the right way up (it was), taking the battery out, rebooting etc.

When I insert the card for the first time is any message supposed to appear?  Nothing did.

Nothing wrong with the media card - I can insert in my computer and copy files to it.

I'm finding this phone very frustrating.  Part of the problem is we have a mac but this should not affect the media card.  Because we have a mac, we can't download any OS updates, right?  So hopefully that won't be part of the solution.

Any ideas and/or suggestions about how to diagnose the problem or fix it would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forums!

It sounds like the card is either not fully seated or not formatted correctly.

Use the following as a guide:

First a video! (Just to make sure it's properly inserted)

http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101-lecture-6-how-install-microsdhc-card-your-blackberry

Format the card in the BB use :

OPTIONS -MEDIA CARD - menu key - FORMAT.

First make sure the following options are set:

Media Card window ON

Encryption NONE

Mass storage support ON

Auto enable when connected  YES

These are the folders you will need to have on the card;

(If formatted by the Blackberry, they are already there.)

Blackberry

Pictures

Music

Ringtones

Videos

Voicenotes
Docs (if you have Docs to go)

Thanks.

Re: Media card problems

Thanks for the responses.  It got me there.

Unfortunately, the video link is for 8830 and Curve.  However, I retried inserting the card and I figured out I hadn't pushed it in hard enough.  It has to snap in flush before you close the door.  Guess I wasn't used to the little MicroSD card.  If inserted correctly a message pops up confirming a media card is available.

Then go to Settings->Options->Memory.  There you can format it.  Note there is no Settings->Options->Media Card like other BBs.

Once you've done this, you'll find appropriate options appear e.g., when you use the camera you can store the pictures to the device or the media card.

thanks again

Re: Media card problems

thanks Zodin!  I had this problem too.  I seems like I'm breaking the card to get it in there.

Re: Media card problems

Hi

My media card worked for 4 days and then suddenly stopped working.

When try to use the card on other devices it works but not on the blackberry. Another strange aspect of this is that whenever i remove or insert the card the device can detect that the card is being removed or inserted but when i try to format it , it says "format failed".

And the final verdict from the phone comes as Media card cannot be read Verify that the memory card is formatted.

Anybody have a solution for this. I have a blackberry 8220.

Regards

Orion

Re: Media card problems

Hi

I can't play songs on my handheld since the Media Card "cannot be accessed due to fatal errors".

Also, I cant even format it. My media card is showing as "not installed."

I have a BlackBerry 9670, and OS is 6.

Please help

Thanks!
