Mobile Hotspot Does not function while roaming off of the Alltel network and on the Sprint network

I have a Blackberry 9930 activated on the Alltel network.  Alltel tech support level 1,2,&3 as well as store personel have told me this device should function and broadcast wifi both while on the Alltel network as well as while roaming on the Sprint network.  EVDO data works on the phone while roaming on the Sprint network.  Tech support has opened a roaming trouble ticket with Sprint and sprint states that the phone has data access.

When I try to power up the mobile hotspot while roaming on the sprint network, it will not turn on and my blackberry displays a message similar to "The mobile network does not support this feature...."

Hotspot works great while on the Alltel network

Alltel is sending me now a 3rd handset but I doubt this will solve the problem. It seems to be a software issue with the phone.  Any ideas?

Re: Mobile Hotspot Does not function while roaming off of the Alltel network and on the Sprint network

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Actually, I disagree that it's a Software issue...if it were, logic would dictate that it work the same on all networks, and that is not what is happening. Further, the message you receive when you attempt on Sprint is clearly stated...the problem is with the network, not the device.

Hence, from what you report here, I would deduce that something about how your device is roaming on Sprint is not properly configured for this particular feature. And only Sprint can resolve that. I recommend you continue your current formal support escalations and encourage them to also escalate up to BlackBerry for even further enhanced support.

Good luck!
