My email stopped working out of the blue

My internet is working OK. I can text and make a phone calls. My email (gmail) stopped receiving and sending emails. I reset email account  and when I enter password I get a message: your email server application is not working (something like that). I reinstalled BB OS twice, seems like this is not working

Please use plain text.

Exact and complete error messages are always better than guesses...so, based on that, here's my guess.

I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

1) Register HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
  • Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app

2) Delete and Resend Service Books (pre-BB10 devices only)

  • KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
  • If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
  • KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
  • Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.

3) Reboot

  • Pre-BB10 Devices ONLY. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
  • BB10 Devices. Hold the top button down until the counter reaches zero. Wait for the device to be fully shut down (e.g., nothing at all displayed on the screen, no LED lights, etc.). Hold the top button until the red LED is lit. Wait through the full boot-up process. IF this fails, you can attempt the battery-pull method above, but it is normally NOT recommended unless nothing else works.
  • See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should try deleting and re-adding your configurations for the affected email accounts. Otherwise, you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.

Good luck!

Here is a KB that discusses that error:

  • KB32866 Error "Your device had a problem connecting to the server" is displayed when attempting to integrate an email account in the Email Setup application

Well, there are an incredible number of steps within each of those above procedures. Can you give me a hint about which step of the 3 I gave you that you are on, and within that step, where in the KB you are confronting this challenge?

Thanks!

Re: My email stopped working out of the blue

I've done according the instructions you provided but still couldn't install gmail account. I called Windmobile and technician spent about hour with me trying to get things done. Basically he repeated steps you gave me before. Then he told me that would be better for me if I go and visit service centre in person.. Today I spent an hour in Masonville Mall Wind service centre, London ON and then eventually lady told me she can't help me. She suggested me to buy a new phone (not BB) but I am still on tab and owe $250 to Windmobile. So I will try to find any repair shop in London. I used to like my phone as it's been very convenient  for me and I am very suprised it's been giving me hard time.

OK thanks any way for your help.

Re: My email stopped working out of the blue

If I had to guess (which is all I can do), I'd say that there is something wrong with your service as provided by your carrier. But, having no "back end" access to any systems, there's nothing I can check on or do about it...only your carrier can do anything.

I'm amazed, actually, that they fobbed you off this way. Very sad. They have the ability (indeed, responsibility!!) to escalate cases up to BlackBerry for enhanced support when needed...they should have done that, instead of just fobbing you off like this and driving you to a different solution.

If I were you, I'd head back to them and continue to insist on escalation...consider -- you pay them for your services, and they must therefore deliver those services or they are in breach of contract. You need to insist that they not breach their contract. Use words like that...contractual stuff...it might just get enough of their attention to get them to do something correctly this time.

Good luck!
